To generate enough electricity during peak period to power 400 to 500 Vineland homes, Calpine operates a 4 MW Photovoltaic power plant consisting of over 13,000 mono-crystalline silicon solar panels. These panels are mounted on structural steel foundations and set at a 25 degree fixed tilt to the Southern horizon to maximize solar energy collection.

Calpine uses high-efficiency solar panels in order to limit the land use requirements to just 15 acres.

The low-voltage DC power from the solar panels is converted and transformed into high-voltage AC power on site then transmitted to the Vineland Municipal Electric Grid. When fully operational, this plant will produce approximately 5,500 MWh of energy annually.

bull   The Vineland Solar One array cost more than $24 million and was one of the largest in New Jersey when constructed.
bull   The array includes 13,000 photovoltaic panels covering 15 acres.
bull   The panels are fixed at a 25 degree tilt to the Southern horizon.
bull   Electricity generated by the solar field will flow directly into the Vineland Municipal Electricity Utility power grid.
